Why you should visit Australia in 2016

Sure, it’s far away, and you’re bound to get at least a little jetlagged after the flight, but if you haven’t yet taken the chance to visit  Australia you’ve been missing out.

The Sunburnt Country is many things, but boring it is not. And with such a vast amount of space to explore, the hardest part will be sorting out your itinerary. The people are warm and welcoming and will often offer you advice along the way, so if you haven’t been yet, this year is the year to go.

Here are some reasons why you should visit Australia in 2016:

The food is delicious

Many people are unaware that the food is great in Australia, and expect it to be typical “Americanized” food of burgers and fries. However, the country actually has a huge variety of food, much of it adapted since the colonization of the country. During the gold rush in the 1850’s, migrants introduced Australia to goods like coffee, along with food from America, China, and Europe.

Australia is a country of immigrants, and the multicultural population means that visitors will find European, Asian, Indian, African and Mediterranean foods throughout the country. Fish and chips should be eaten on the beach, the bakeries are full of pies and delicious baked goods, and you can even try Kangaroo meat.

It’s great for a road trip

Because Australia is so big, and the main cities are so spread out, it can be easy to miss out on some of the best parts- especially if you’re flying between destinations. This is one country that was made for road trips, and hiring a car or camper van is the best way to enjoy the varied landscape. If you travel with a few friends you can split the costs of car hire and gas and spend a few nights sleeping under the stars (just watch out for crocs and snakes).  This allows you to go wherever you like and get tips from other travellers along the way, and because you’re not stuck on a fixed itinerary you’re free to stay longer if you love a place, or leave early if you’ve heard of somewhere better.

The wildlife is perfectly Australian

We’ve all heard about the dangers of Australian wildlife, and we know to watch out for the huge spiders, sharks, scorpions, snakes and crocs, but heading to a wildlife park should definitely be on your itinerary. You’ll be able to feed kangaroos, hug koalas, and learn about the many interesting animals that make Australia their home.

Instagram-worthy destinations

Many people are unaware of just how beautiful Australia is until they take the time to travel through it. From Kakadu National Park where you can see some of the longest historical records on earth and examine the rock art, to Cable Beach where you can ride a camel along the endless white sand beach before swimming in turquoise waters and having a drink while you watch the sunset, if there’s one thing you should bring (other than a sense of adventure), it’s a good camera.
