Best Places for Airport Dining near London

Travelers who find themselves faced with exceptionally long layovers often make a quick escape to nearby cities for food and relaxation before carrying on with their flight plans. After all, the foods served on onboard airplanes are generally considered to be of inferior quality. Travelers who don’t care for fast food may also find that the selection of edibles available at the terminals is not that much better. Yet in some places, cunning entrepreneurs are doing their best to provide their captive audiences with tasty options inside the terminal. So, with that in mind, here are some of the best airport eateries to try out on your next layover in London.

The Gorgeous Kitchen: (Heathrow) Traditional British cuisine is the mainstay at this upscale eatery which specializes in farm to table style dining. The large windows within the restaurant provide travelers with a good view of all the incoming and outgoing flights near Terminal 2.. Prices here are generally considered to be reasonable for the amount of food that one gets. Although the establishment does have an “express” menu, eating at this spot is generally not recommended for patrons that are in a hurry because sitting down and have a meal at this spot will easily take about an hour or more.

Jamie’s Italian: (Gatwick) This spot in the airport’s north terminal is run by celebrity chief Jaime Oliver and it serves up precisely what its’ name would imply. The restaurant has a selection of to-go items for travelers that are rushing to catch their next flight as well as cooked items for those that have time to sit down and eat. Travelers aren’t likely to miss their flight by stopping for diner here because there is an electronic board posted inside the restaurant to display that information. The entrees found at this spot typically range from £11 to £25 ($16.95 to$37.84 USD). The restaurant is typically open from Sunday through Thursdays, starting at 4:30 am.

Giraffe: (Gatwick and Heathrow) This establishment can be found near Terminal 5 at the Heathrow airport. Travelers should look for the cluster of giraffe statues that mark the restaurant’s entrance. Although this midrange eatery is a British chain, it still serves up consistently good breakfast food around the clock in a place where options are few. This establishment also serves tasty smoothies, small plates, and desserts. There is even kid’s menu for young patrons to enjoy. Other airport locations can even be found in Birmingham and in Dubai.

Happy Travels!
