The Best Jobs for People who Love to Travel

If you’ve been thinking about leaving your current job or you’re simply looking for a career which will allow you to spend time seeing the world, you’re not alone. Many people choose certain jobs specifically because of the travel opportunities, so here are the best jobs for people who love to travel:

Recruiting

Recruiters are expected to travel to universities and colleges looking for new talent for different companies. This job has a nice balance since recruiters typically spend lots of time on the road during recruiting season but have plenty of time in the office during the off-season.

Sales

Some sales jobs will have you stuck in one place in a store or behind a desk, while others (such as pharmaceutical sales) will require you to cover a certain territory, giving you lots of opportunities for traveling. Your company size and the size of your area well affect whether you’re driving to different cities in your state or flying to different countries.

The Travel Industry

It may seem obvious, but there are plenty of jobs within the travel industry which will allow you to take at least a few trips each year. Along with jobs like flight attendants and travel agents, consider training for a career as a pilot, working on a cruise ship or as a travel writer.

Travel Agent

Teaching

English teachers are highly sought after in many countries, and sometimes you don’t even need to be qualified. China for example only requires teachers to have a degree, as does South Korea. You’ll have the chance to spend a year or more in each country, traveling to different places on your days off and really getting to know the culture around you. Depending on the country you choose you may find yourself earning some serious money as well.

Volunteer

While volunteering is usually seen as a “gap year experience”, if you’re serious about making a difference you can find paying positions for international volunteer organisations and NGOs around the world.

Consulting

Consultants provide companies with expert advice on many different subjects from IT to marketing to management. They also aren’t tied to one company and can instead travel to different cities and countries, visiting businesses who need help for either short or long-term contracts.

Reporter

Reporters can choose to go overseas, maybe working for foreign branches of a media company. You’ll need to be excellent at research and able to get people to open up to you, well organised, and ready for adventure. It’s helpful if you know another language and you’ll typically need to have studied journalism at university or college.

Photographer

If you’ve always had a love (and talent) for photography, why not make it a career? This isn’t the type of job you’ll immediately be able to quit your old job for, but there’s no reason why you can’t freelance on the side while you make contacts in the industry and work up to earning a full-time income.
