Visiting New England

Widely considered to be at their best during the months of May and June, the New England states are nonetheless home to a variety of things for visitors to do throughout the year. Fall foliage tours and winter sports are also quite popular during the cooler months. City lovers visiting the region can choose from places like Boston and Providence, while travelers that prefer a more natural setting can make their way over to Cape Cod or Mount Desert Island. Of course, there are plenty of good things to eat in the region including the tasty Maine lobsters and locally produced maple syrup. Getting around New England is also relatively easy, especially in a rental veh.  Those that don’t want to bother driving themselves will be glad to learn that it is possible to navigate the area using public transportation as long as they make their plans in advance.

Perhaps the most well-known city in New England is Boston, Massachusetts. Visitors to the metropolis are advised to avoid bringing their own vehicles as driving in town can be a frustrating and expensive experience. Getting from place to place either on foot or using the subway is far more convenient. Highlights here include the Boston Museum of Fine Arts, Fenway Park for sports fans, and the walkable Freedom Trail that takes in many important historical sights. The local public park, one of the oldest in America, is also worth a stop on days when the weather is pleasant. Travelers might be equally interested in visiting the city’s harbor islands, which can be reached by ferry from the downtown area.

Of course, the region is home to many other points of interest including Arcadia National Park. Watching the sun rise over Cadillac Mountain is a good way to start the day before hiking on one of the numerous trails that can be found in the park. If walking around isn’t one’s idea of a good time, there are also several scenic beaches in the area that are worth a stop as well. There are three campgrounds within the park limits but travelers that want to stay in a hotel may want to look at the options available in the nearby town of Bar Harbor.
